Q: Where can I use this actuator?
A: Where you would use a standard belt actuator system up to 650mm/s.
Where you want better accuracy and repeatability than a standard belt drive.
Where you want to consider replacing a ballscrew greater than 500mm because of whirling at high speed or because of cost.
Q: Is it competitively priced?
A: Yes! Our stated aim is to make OEM machine building lower cost and higher value. The HLDtm is competitively priced but has an incredible set of features and includes a full servomotor with on-board fully featured programmable motion control.
Q: Can I make an X-Y-Z system with the HLD™?
A: Absolutely, the actuators will fit together using carriage plates. Because they incorporate SmartMotorsTM, making an X-Y-Z system is as simple as adding link cables and a power supply. In fact by further adding our Jen CNC software you have a full X-Y-Z CNC system which you can build in hours at a very low cost!
Q: Does the HLD™ need a brake for vertical axis?
A: Not always! The 2.5mm/rev unit has such resistance to back-driving that it can often be used without a brake.
Q: Is it easy to integrate as a retrofit?
A: Yes! The Integrated SmartMotor™ and no gearbox means that it has a very small footprint and has a complete in-built programmable motion controller. In many applications you would only have to tell the system to start and stop, the actuator will look after itself. If you want to integrate with existing PLCs then there is inbuilt I/O, serial comms and there are options for Profibus, DeviceNet, and HMIs.
Q: Why is it revolutionary?
A: It has characteristics of performance and price which put it in an actuator class of its own between that of ballscrews and beltdrives.
