The SmartMotor™ Interface (SMI 2.0) software is your window to the SmartMotor. It is Microsoft Windows Compatible and together with a PC or Laptop equipped with an RS232 port, you have everything you need to communicate with 1 to 100 SmartMotors.

Download this single file, unzip it into a temporary directory and run Setup to install the latest verison of SMI on your system. |
The following are just a few of the SMI 2.0 program’s many functions:
Perfectly Help Tune Your SmartMotor
A Tools menu is available with a communications and tuning utility. The Tuner is used to optimize the Servo response of the SmartMotor. Set your own PID tuning parameters and plot either the step response, or your actual move sequence. Examine a graph of your move, as you scroll back through your moves. The SmartMotor User’s Guide has some very helpful information that makes it an easy task to optimize the SmartMotor’s PID filter.
Monitor SmartMotors
The SmartMotor Interface has special user-defined polling features to conveniently monitor important functions. Monitor different status bits, variables, and Input/Output from any motor in a chain, even while your application runs. A chart window visually displays values of user-selected variables over time. Motor communications may be distributed over multiple serial ports for increased bandwidth. A serial port analyzer window records and displays all communication.
Get Assistance Using On-Line Help
An extensive Help section is available with a getting started tutorial, program examples, and a language tutorial. Handy right-click context menus present actions right when you want them. All views and dialog boxes have standard context-sensitive help.
Write, Compile and Download Programs
The interface is divided into a terminal window to communicate directly to the motor and a program window to write, compile and download programs. It can open multiple windows for program editing, instantly address multiple motors, and upload programs from motors. Editable macros shrink repeated sequences of commands sent from the terminal to a keystroke or two.
User program syntax is automatically color-coded. Even user environment qualities, such as screen background and text colors can be customized. A click on an error message places the cursor at the error location in the program editor window. As new features and commands are added in new motor versions, the user program is automatically scanned according to the features of the motor used. A multiple motor application may be organized as a project. Every motor in the project can automatically have its program downloaded. Every motor and program in the project can be automatically verified for consistency, with any discrepancies displayed.
Application Development Using SMI 2.0
All SmartMotors come with a terminal program, a program editor, and a source level debugger. These can be loaded from CD-ROM, or simply downloaded via the Internet. Simply write your program, scan it and download it to the SmartMotor. Either reset or re-power your SmartMotor and watch your program go to work. System parameters can be monitored and modified in real time, all from one screen. This Windows interface comes with source code to a variety of different host and embedded applications in both BASIC and C.
